Caryn is a founding partner of Green, Griffith & Borg-Breen LLP. She specializes in intellectual property law, concentrating in patent litigation and counseling related to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and chemical products.
Caryn has over a decade of experience representing clients in pharmaceutical patent litigation arising under Hatch-Waxman. She has a strong background in formulating trial strategies, and she excels at working closely with experts to bring the best possible outcome for her clients. Caryn has significant trial experience, including serving as first chair in a successful Hatch-Waxman litigation relating to Horizon Pharma's topical diclofenac PENNSAID® 2% product in 2017. She also has significant appellate experience having been involved in appellate briefing as well as having argued before the Federal Circuit.
Caryn has advised clients on a broad range of technologies including pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetics and medical devices and has extensive experience with freedom-to-operate, due diligence, licensing and prosecution matters, as well as inter partes review and interference proceedings.
Caryn works closely with her clients to understand their business goals and develop a strategy that achieves those goals.
In 2018, Caryn was named a "Global IP Star" by Managing IP, was recognized in Intellectual Asset Management's (IAM) Patent 1000 for Intellectual Property Litigation, was recognized as a "Life Sciences Star" by LMG Life Sciences and was honored as one of "Chicago's Notable Women Lawyers" by Crain's Custom Media. She has been selected by her peers as a Leading Lawyer in Intellectual Property Law, Leading Lawyers Network (2015-2018), and she was featured in the 2018 edition of Leading Lawyers magazine. She has been selected by her peers as a Super Lawyer (2016-2018) and prior to that an "Illinois Rising Star" (2009-2010; 2012-2015) in Intellectual Property Litigation as published in Illinois Super Lawyers.
Prior to co-founding Green Griffith in 2015, Caryn was a Partner at Leydig, Voit & Mayer, Ltd. She received a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a B.S. degree in Chemistry, magna cum laude, from the College of William and Mary.
