E. Anthony Figg is co-founder and a member in the Washington, DC, law firm of Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck, P.C. He specializes in intellectual property law, primarily involving the chemical, pharmaceutical, healthcare, and biotechnology industries. His practice focuses on patent litigation and inter partes matters before the PTAB, appeals, ADR, patent procurement, intellectual property licensing and related contract matters, opinions, and counseling.

Mr. Figg has served as lead counsel in a large number of complex patent litigations in federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, the PTAB and arbitral tribunals, as well as in appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He litigated some of the first cases arising out of the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984 (the "so-called" Hatch-Waxman amendments) and continues to handle a large number of such cases. Mr. Figg has served as chair of the Section of Intellectual Property Law (IPL) of the American Bar Association (ABA), the largest organization of patent attorneys in the world. He also served a four-year term on the IPL Section's Council and has chaired several of its divisions and committees. He chaired the IPL Section's Patent Law Reform Task Force for several years. He also has served on the ABA's Standing Committee on Amicus Curiae Briefs and is a former member of the ABA's Coordinating Committee on Bioethics. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the District of Columbia Bar and its Intellectual Property Law Section, and the Licensing Executives Society. Mr. Figg has been inducted as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been elected a fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

In 2018, Mr. Figg was inducted into the LMG Life Sciences Hall of Fame. He is recognized as a Luminary in the DC Metro Area by Intellectual Asset Management's (IAM) Patent 1000 - The World's Leading Patent Professionals (2013-2018), and was selected to the Washington, DC Super Lawyers list in the field of Intellectual Property Litigation for 12 consecutive years. He is included on the Super Lawyers Top 100 list. Additionally, since 2008 Mr. Figg has been identified in The Best Lawyers in America© guide in Washington, DC, in the fields of Litigation - Intellectual Property, Litigation - Patent, Patent Law, and Trademark Law, and in 2011, 2013, 2018, and 2019 he was named "Lawyer of the Year" in Washington, DC, for Intellectual Property Law, Litigation - Patent, Litigation - Intellectual Property, and Patent Law, respectively, by Best Lawyers. Finally, Mr. Figg is named a Trademark Star and a Patent Star in the District of Columbia by Managing Intellectual Property's (MIP) IP Stars rankings.

Mr. Figg received a J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law and a B.S. in Chemistry from Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose- Hulman Institute of Technology). He is admitted to practice before the Bar of the District of Columbia, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the US Supreme Court. Mr. Figg is also registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
